High Security Locks Installed Nationwide
High security locks are built to resist the ways ordinary locks get beaten: picking, bumping, drilling, prying and copying a key at a hardware store counter. At Loxley Locksmith & Security, we install, rekey and service them for homes and businesses across the United States, and we have done it since 2007. You get a written price before any work starts, and that price is what you pay. If you want a front door that a thief gives up on after thirty seconds, call (682) 281-8985. A live person answers 24/7 and will tell you what fits your door and your budget before anyone gets in a truck.
What Makes a Lock High Security
A high security lock is more than a heavier deadbolt. It combines three things: a cylinder that is hard to pick or bump, a bolt and housing that stand up to drilling and force, and a key system that stops anyone from cutting a copy without your permission. A builder-grade lock may have only a tiny fraction of that. When we look at a door, we check all three, because a strong cylinder in a weak door still fails.
Cylinder, bolt and key control
The cylinder is the part with the keyway. High security cylinders use extra pin types, sidebars or rotating discs that make picking take far longer. The bolt is usually a hardened steel throw of at least one inch, often with a steel pin inside that spins when someone tries to saw through it. Key control means the blanks are restricted, so a stranger cannot walk into a shop and duplicate your key.
Medeco High Security Locks
Medeco is one of the best known names in the trade. Its cylinders rotate each pin to a precise angle before the lock will open, and many models add a sidebar, so a pick set that works on a standard lock does nothing here. Installing a Medeco deadbolt typically runs $200 to $450 per lock including labor and door preparation. Loxley Locksmith & Security technicians cut Medeco keys on factory machines for authorized accounts and can set up your cylinder for patented key control.
Who tends to choose Medeco
Homeowners with detached garages, home offices or valuables on site pick it often. So do small businesses that need to know exactly who holds a key. If you already have a Medeco lock and the original installer is out of reach, we can service it, rekey it and add keys without starting over.
Mul-T-Lock and Restricted Keyways
Mul-T-Lock uses an interactive pin design with a telescoping pin inside each stack. That gives you a cylinder that resists picking and bumping and a key that cannot be duplicated on a general-purpose key machine. A Mul-T-Lock deadbolt usually runs $180 to $400 installed. Other restricted systems from Schlage Primus, Kwikset SmartKey Security and Assa Abloy lines work on similar logic: the keyway is protected, and key blanks only come through authorized dealers.
Why a restricted keyway matters
The weak point of most homes is not the lock, it is the key. A contractor, a former tenant or a babysitter can copy an ordinary key in two minutes for a few dollars. A restricted key cannot be copied without a card or authorization from you. That one change closes the gap that no amount of cylinder strength can fix.
Grade 1 Deadbolts and What the Ratings Mean
The American National Standards Institute grades residential and commercial locks. Grade 3 is light duty, Grade 2 is solid for most homes, and Grade 1 is the highest, tested for hundreds of thousands of cycles and heavy strikes. For a high security job, we usually start at Grade 1. A Grade 1 deadbolt installed by Loxley Locksmith & Security typically costs $150 to $300 for the hardware plus labor, and we put that number in writing before the visit.
Beyond the grade
A grade is a floor, not a promise. We also look at pick resistance, bump resistance and drill resistance, which are different ratings. A lock can be strong against force and still weak against a pick. We explain which protections your lock has and which it does not, in plain words, so you can decide what matters for your property.
Anti-Pick, Anti-Bump and Anti-Drill Features
Bumping uses a filed key and a light tap to jump the pins on a basic lock in seconds. High security cylinders defeat it with security pins, sidebars or alternate pin geometry. Drilling is stopped by hardened inserts that chew up a drill bit. Some locks also add an anti-snap collar so the cylinder cannot be broken off the door. Ask us which of these your current locks have. Many homeowners are surprised to learn their deadbolt has none.
Installing High Security Locks on Your Door
The right lock fails if the door is soft. Before we install, we check the door for thickness, material and condition, and we measure the frame. Most exterior doors need a reinforced strike plate with 3-inch screws that bite into the stud, and many benefit from a steel door edge guard around the bolt. This is the same careful work we do on every deadbolt installation, with tighter tolerances.
Bore, backset and fit
We bore to the manufacturer’s specification, set the backset correctly and test the bolt throw so it seats fully with no force. A hardened bolt that drags against the strike is a bolt that someone will eventually defeat. When the job calls for several locks, see our page on lock installation for how we handle multi-door projects.
Rekeying High Security Cylinders
You do not always need to replace a high security lock. If it is in good shape, we can rekey the cylinder so old keys stop working. Rekeying a Medeco or Mul-T-Lock cylinder usually runs $90 to $200 per lock, higher than a standard lock because the parts and key blanks cost more. Learn how the basics work on our rekey locks page, then call (682) 281-8985 for a firm number on yours.
Keeping the key count honest
When we finish, you get a written record of how many keys exist for each lock. If someone leaves your household or your business, you know exactly what to collect and when to rekey again. That record is a small thing that makes a big difference six months later.
Electronic and Smart High Security Options
Keypad and smart locks can be high security too, if they are the right models. We look for Grade 1 mechanical hardware, encrypted communication, tamper alerts and a physical key override with a protected keyway. A good electronic high security lock runs $250 to $600 installed. We set the codes, delete factory defaults and show you how to add and remove users yourself. Cheap smart locks with weak cylinders get a polite no from us.
Signs You Should Upgrade to High Security Locks
- You have lost track of who holds a key. Past tenants, contractors, cleaners and relatives can all have copies. A restricted keyway ends that problem, because new keys cannot be cut without your sign-off.
- You have had a break-in or an attempt. A thief who tried once will often try again. We inspect the door and frame, repair the damage and put in hardware that makes a second attempt a bad idea.
- You run a business or home office with valuables inside. Cash, inventory, tools, records and equipment all justify a lock that resists tools, not just casual tampering.
- Your locks are builder-grade and 15 years old. Wear loosens tolerances, and old pin cylinders are easy to pick. Upgrading is cheaper than most people expect.
- Your insurer or property manager asks for higher-rated hardware. We can supply the grade and listing documentation they need on the invoice.

How Much Do High Security Locks Cost?
High security lock installation in the U.S. generally runs $150 to $600 per door, depending on the brand and grade. A Grade 1 deadbolt typically lands between $150 and $300 installed. Mul-T-Lock models run $180 to $400, and Medeco models run $200 to $450. Rekeying a high security cylinder usually costs $90 to $200. Electronic high security locks run $250 to $600. These are honest ranges based on what we charge across the country, and the phone quote matches the invoice.
Several things move the price: the number of doors, the hardware brand, whether the door needs reinforcement, and the distance a technician travels. You avoid overpaying by getting the price in writing before dispatch. If you are comparing options, our change door locks page shows how a basic swap is priced. There is a free estimate on every call, so phone our team at (682) 281-8985 and ask for your number.

Frequently Asked Questions About High Security Locks
High security locks resist picking, bumping, drilling and unauthorized key copying. They pair a tougher cylinder with a hardened bolt and a restricted key system. Brands like Medeco and Mul-T-Lock are common examples, along with Grade 1 deadbolts from major makers.

Not by itself. A strong lock in a thin or cracked door frame can still be kicked in. We check the door and frame, and we reinforce the strike plate and edge so the whole setup holds up, not just the cylinder.
Yes. Every installation carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the work fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, parts and labor included. It is written on every invoice.
